(H)indie rock (the Remix)
Just days after I do my big post on modern, non-Bollywood Desi music, I find out DJ Paul Devro, representing the label Mad Decent (home of Diplo), has gone to the Mumbai slum Dharavi. He’s there for a “global workshop” called Urban Typhoon, which aims to produce an alternative urban redevelopment plan for the historic slum (I did not know about this project till today, but it seems really interesting and I will have to investigate it further).
At the same time, he’s definitely recording original works incorporating the music and rhythms of Dharavi’s Koliwada district, as seen on the Mad Decent blog (linked above).

That, my friends, is a beautiful picture. Devro’s posts from Koliwada (some of which include MP3’s) are here, here, here, here, and here.
MAN I am looking forward to them producing a compilation out of this.
